ROBIN HOOD The EnvironMENTAL Family Musical
04/08/2009
Press Release
June 29th, 2009
Borrowing a page from Robin Hood's notebook, Ross Petty Productions is taking from the riches of Canada's talent pool, and giving it to the poor....those downtrodden citizens of the great province of Ontario who are looking for a welcome escape from the harsh economic realities of 2009. They'll find relief in the laughter generated by the silliness of Petty's 14th annual winter holiday fun-fest.
ROBIN HOOD, the EnvironMENTAL Family Musical, swashbuckles its way into the beautiful Elgin Theatre where only a few short months ago, Cinderella found true love through the benefit of organic pumpkins. Robin and his Merry Men's challenge is to preserve the green environment while the Sheriff of Nottingham threatens to raze Sherwood Forest in order to keep Nottingham Lumber the leader in its field ......making toothpicks, bathroom tissue, and catapults since 1732.
PAUL NOLAN, handsome square-jawed star of Stratford's WEST SIDE STORY, easily transitions from climbing Maria's NYC balcony to pulling the heart strings of every woman he encounters....most particularly one Maid Marion, played by the captivating and talented Canadian Idol winner, EVA AVILA. Eva will be making her live theatre debut, after having recently opened several concert dates for superstar Beyonce.
Further protecting the eco-system while inspiring tears of laughter for her uncanny impressions of Celine Dion and Liza Minnelli, is the Good Fairy of Sherwood Forest, JESSICA HOLMES, who rejuvenated the ranks of ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FARCE on CBC-TV for the last 5 years and starred in her own CTV series, THE HOLMES SHOW.
More eco-friendly talent emanates from Quebec in the dashing figure of YVAN PEDNEAULT, who's been rocking Toronto for the past two years in the super-charged lead role of Galileo in the Mirvish hit production of WE WILL ROCK YOU.
When DAN CHAMEROY created the unforgettable Ugly Stepsister Plumbum von Botox in last year's CINDERELLA, little did he think that his character would be returning this year as one of the denizens of Sherwood Forest. Having ditched his scheming Mother and Sister (Bertha and Carnivia von Botox), Plumbum turned over a new leaf (there's that green theme again), graduated from Nottingham Nursing College, signed on with Workopolis and became Maid Marion's guardian.
Evil runs amok in this production of ROBIN HOOD through the dangerous but immaculately coiffed persona of the Sheriff of Nottingham, played by producer and perennial bad guy ROSS PETTY. Here's an actor who never met a wig he couldn't build a character around.
The multi-talented creative team of director TED DYKSTRA, choreographer TRACEY FLYE, music director BOB FOSTER, and writer CHRIS EARLE release their collective zaniness on ROBIN HOOD, the EnvironMENTAL Family Musical.
Join in all the hilarity of Toronto's favorite family entertainment at the Elgin Theatre from November 26, 2009 through January 3, 2010.
